Cookie Policy
Exactly which cookies and similar technologies Freedom Road Living uses, why, for how long, and how to control them.
This Cookie Policy explains how Freedom Road Living uses cookies and similar technologies on freedomroadliving.com. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. First-party cookies are set by the site you are visiting; third-party cookies are set by another domain. “Similar technologies” include local storage, session storage, and tags or pixels that load a small file to record an event. We use the word “cookies” for all of them.
How we use them
We keep cookies to a minimum. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not run retargeting pixels, and our calculators do not save what you type.
Cookies we use
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| wordpress_test_cookie, wordpress_logged_in_*, wp-settings-* | Freedom Road Living (WordPress) | Only for logged-in editors: security and admin preferences | Strictly necessary | Session to 1 year |
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 (first-party) | Distinguishes visitors to measure aggregate usage | Analytics | Up to 2 years |
| _ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics 4 (first-party) | Keeps session state | Analytics | Up to 2 years |
| frl_cta_closed | Freedom Road Living (session storage) | Remembers that you dismissed the tool banner | Preference | Until the tab closes |
Our web host and security services may also set short-lived technical cookies to balance traffic or block malicious requests. These are strictly necessary.
Third-party and affiliate cookies
When you click an affiliate link, you go to a merchant or network site (for example Amazon or a brand’s store through Impact). That site may set its own cookies to credit the referral to us for a limited period, often 1 to 90 days depending on the program. Those cookies are controlled by the merchant or network and covered by their privacy and cookie policies. Embedded content, such as a YouTube video, may set cookies when you play it; where available we use privacy-enhanced embeds.
Local and session storage
Our planning tools keep your entries only in the page while it is open. We do not write them to cookies, local storage, or our servers. Closing or reloading the page clears them.
Your choices
- Browser settings: you can block or delete cookies in your browser. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect forms.
- Google Analytics opt-out: install Google’s opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Consent where required: if you are in a jurisdiction that requires consent for analytics cookies (for example the EU, UK, or Quebec), we will ask before setting them, and you can change your choice at any time.
Global Privacy Control
We honor Global Privacy Control signals as described in our Privacy Policy.
Changes
We will update this page, including the table above, before adding any new category of cookie, such as advertising cookies.
Cookies and similar technologies in detail
This section lists the specific technologies used on Freedom Road Living, what each one does, and how long it lasts. Names and lifetimes are set by the providers and can change; we review this list when we add or remove a service.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Typical duration | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes visitors for aggregate statistics | 2 years | Visitors who are not logged in to the site |
| _ga_<ID> | Google Analytics 4 | Keeps session state for aggregate statistics | 2 years | Visitors who are not logged in to the site |
| wordpress_test_cookie | WordPress | Checks that the browser accepts cookies at login | Session | Site editors only |
| wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_* | WordPress | Keeps editors signed in securely | Session or up to 14 days | Site editors only |
| wp-settings-* | WordPress | Remembers editor interface preferences | Up to 1 year | Site editors only |
| frl_cta_closed (session storage) | Freedom Road Living | Remembers that you dismissed the tools banner | Until you close the tab | Visitors who dismiss the banner |
Our calculators run in your browser. They do not send your entries to us and do not set cookies to store them.
Cookies set after you leave our site
When you click an affiliate link, the merchant or affiliate network, such as Amazon or a brand through the Impact network, may set its own cookies on its own website. Those cookies let the merchant credit us if you buy, and they are governed by that merchant’s privacy and cookie policies, not ours. The link itself may include a code identifying the page you came from, which never includes your name or contact details.
Analytics and logged-in editors
We do not load Google Analytics for logged-in editors, so the owner’s own visits stay out of our statistics. We have not enabled Google Analytics advertising features, and we do not use analytics data for targeted advertising.
How to control and delete cookies
All major browsers let you block or delete cookies. Look in your browser’s settings under privacy, security, or site data. You can also install Google’s opt-out browser add-on to prevent Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits, or use a browser that blocks analytics by default. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect how our pages or calculators work.
Regional consent
If we begin using cookies that require prior consent in your region, such as advertising cookies for visitors in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we will ask for that consent before setting them and give you a way to change your choice at any time.
