Data Sources and Verification Policy
Where Freedom Road Living's campground, route, and location information comes from and how every record is verified and dated.
This policy covers campground, overnight parking, route, and location information on Freedom Road Living and in the planned RV Freedom Portal.
Sources we use
- Government open data from federal, state, provincial, and local agencies, used under their terms.
- Official campground, park, and agency websites.
- Licensed APIs and datasets, used under written license terms.
- Approved product feeds from affiliate partners.
- Our own research.
- Submissions from readers who give permission.
What we do not use
We do not scrape or republish proprietary campground databases, user reviews, protected photos, or copyrighted descriptions from other websites or apps. When we summarize information, we write our own text and link to the source.
Verification
- Every location record shows its source and the date it was last verified.
- Records are re-checked on a schedule and whenever a reader reports a change.
- Reader submissions are checked against official sources before publication.
- Information we cannot verify is labeled as such or not published.
Your responsibility
Conditions change. Always confirm current rules, closures, fees, and availability with the managing agency or campground before you travel, and camp or park overnight only where it is legal and permitted.
Report a change
Report incorrect information or email corrections@freedomroadliving.com.
Official data we use, in detail
| Source | What we use it for | How often we refresh |
|---|---|---|
| National Park Service API | National park campgrounds, RV and trailer length limits, amenities, reservation links | Weekly, and before major updates |
| Recreation Information Database (RIDB), Recreation.gov | Federal campgrounds managed by the Forest Service, BLM, Army Corps of Engineers, and others | Weekly, cached per state |
| Agency web pages (BLM, USDA Forest Service, Parks Canada) | Stay limits, dispersed camping rules, fire and access information | When we write or update an article |
| Manufacturer specification sheets | Power draw, capacity, dimensions, and other product figures | When we write or update an article |
| Google Ads Keyword Planner | Search demand used to choose topics, never presented as a fact about the world | Periodically |
How we verify figures
For each article, we collect the sources behind its specific figures and confirm that each source page loads and states the figure we use. Figures that cannot be traced to a verified source are removed or rewritten as general guidance before publication.
Data we show as published
When we display agency data, such as national park length limits, we show it as published and note the date we retrieved it. We do not edit agency figures, so if an agency’s data contains an error, our pages will reflect it until the agency corrects it or a reader reports it and we confirm the correction with the agency.
Attribution
Freedom Road Living is not affiliated with the National Park Service, Recreation.gov, or any other agency whose data we use. Agency names are used only to identify sources.
